Welcome to my Zoo!

(This page is under construction - please bear with me!)

Here are all of the other four legged furry friends that I share my happy home with!
Doggies:

~Harley~

Harley is a 7 & 1/2 year old yorkshire terrier and of course he is my alpha male!  I have had him since he was just 4 months old.  When I brought him home he was a measly 2lbs and now he is a whopping 5lbs!!  (Maybe 6lbs after a big meal!)  He is very much a momma's boy!
~Dexter~

I had reserved Dex about a week before he was even born!  I told the breeder I wanted a red fawn male with a black mask and low and behold, out of 11 puppies there was only one red fawn male with a black mask!  The breeder even started calling him Dexter from the day he was born!  I first met him at three weeks old and brought him home at six weeks old.  Now he is a year and a half and a whopping 90lbs! (his mom was a very small bully!)  And he's a HUGE momma's boy as well!  Sometimes he thinks he is about the size of Harley!  Such a big baby!

~Lucy~

Ah, what can I say about miss Lucy....I got her as a companion for me and Dex after our beloved Sophie passed away.  (You can read her story below)  Lucy came home with me at 7 weeks old and has been a whirlwind of energy ever since!!!  I swear I have never seen a dog with as much energy as her!  She is 7 months old now and about 60lbs (and growing).  I just love her to death though....I even love her snoring every night!  lol!

~Sophie~
~July 30, 2008 - February 25, 2009~

I started looking for a puppy friend for Dexter to play with when I found my Sophie.  I saw an ad posted on Craigslist for “American Bulldog/Bullmastiff puppies” however when I clicked on it it had been flagged.  For some reason I decided to put up my own post looking for the original poster and thankfully he saw it and contacted me.  He told me he had only three little girls and that’s all there was in the litter.  I asked him to send me some pictures and between the puppy pictures, and the fact that her mom looked exactly like Dex, I just HAD to see them!  So on September 17th I brought my little 7 week old girl home!  Dexter and I loved her from the moment we met her!  (Harley wasn’t too happy about her but it’s because he is a grumpy little old man sometimes! Lol!)  Dex immediately took her under his wing and took care of her.  They were inseparable!  She was just an amazing little puppy with an even more amazing little spirit!  She turned heads everywhere we went and strangers would even fall in love with her the moment they met her.  She was just that kind of dog!  Then on February 25th of 2009, one of the worst nights of my life, her life was tragically cut short.

I was sitting in my living room watching TV and the dogs were playing outside, as per usual.  I noticed that it got real quiet for a while but didn’t think much of it.  Usually when they got quiet it just meant they were digging in the backyard somewhere.  But after a few minutes I decided to call them in.  So I whistled and called their names but they weren’t coming.  I kept calling them and kept getting nothing.  So, getting worried and thinking that maybe they got out somehow, I decided to go out back to see what was going on.  To my horror I see Dexter trying to run up to me with Sophie dangling from his mouth.  After freaking out and looking a little closer I saw that her collar had become horribly twisted onto the bottom of his jaw and it was choking her.  I tried with every ounce of strength I had to get it off of his mouth while he was panicking as well but I just couldn’t get it loose.  I then ran inside, grabbed a knife out of the kitchen, and then ran back outside to cut it off of her.  I finally got her loose and tried everything to revive her, including CPR, but nothing was working.  I managed to carry her inside (she was about 60 pounds then) and placed her on a blanket on my couch.  I proceeded to continue trying to revive her until I realized that I was too late…..she was already gone.  I cried for days and days…..I thought I was never going to recover.  I still hurt from it to this day and can see it playing out in my head like it was just yesterday.  And to make matters worse Dexter really missed her too.  He wouldn’t even get out of bed the next morning.  And when he finally did, he looked all over the house for her and then looked at me for answers when he couldn’t find her.  It was devastating.  They both just shattered my heart.

Now all of my dogs wear breakaway collars.  I was only able to find them here:
www.breakawaycollar.com
.  The people who run the site were an amazing support group for me during this time.  The reason they started making these collars and started up the website was because they also lost their beloved dog to this same tragedy.  It was amazing and so sad to see how many other people have gone through the same heart break that I had just gone through.  I just wish I would have know about these collars sooner….it could have saved my Sophie’s life.  This is a lot more than I have written about my other fur kids but it’s because she made such a huge impact in my life in the short time she was with me.  She will FOREVER be missed.

I couldn’t decide which pictures to post so I’ve decided to make a little slideshow that I’ve posted below.  I hope you enjoy!
